Abstract
Reinforced concrete is one of the most commonly used building materials in infrastructure development. Reinforcing bars are embedded in concrete structures to increase tensile stress. These rebars embedded in concrete structures are corroded by chlorination and carbonization, affecting their useful life and increasing the cost of maintenance and repair of the structure. For this reason, various methods have been developed to prevent corrosion and extend the life of structures. Various developed methods have shown that corrosion inhibitors are the most efficient and appropriate method of protecting reinforced concrete structures from corrosion due to their low cost, excellent anticorrosion properties, and ease of handling. This study shows the effect of corrosion inhibitors on steel bars of various diameters embedded in concrete beams. Experimental work is carried out using a mixed corrosion inhibitor of zinc oxide and sodium nitrite with different diameters of 8 mm and 16 mm steel rods embedded in concrete. An electric current is passed through the reinforced concrete of the concrete to increase the corrosion rate. The importance of zinc oxide and sodium nitrite, which are used as corrosion inhibitors for steel bars embedded in concrete and immersed in a 3% sodium chloride solution, has been studied. Compare the results obtained from concrete beam casting with and without corrosion inhibitors.
