Research Productivity of Madurai Kamaraj University During 2006-2020 : Scientometric Mapping of Web of Science Data

Abstract

The present study aims at exploring the scientometric dimensions of the research productivity of Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu as indexed in Web of Science database covering the period 2006-2020. Bibexcel and MS Excel were used to analyze the data. The findings of the study reveal that : Out of 2993 papers analyzed, the first nine years of the study period produced slightly more than half of the total research output while the last six years of the study period produced slightly less than half of the University publications. RGR shows a decreasing trend while doubling time shows an increasing trend. Annual Ratio of Growth shows an oscillation throughout the study period. The highest annual growth rate was recorded in the year 2011 (0.58). Among the document types, journal article are found to be the highest followed by reviews. A majority of the documents (1558) had 6-10 pages followed by 687 documents with 11-15 pages. The active research areas of MKU include derivatives (195) and nanoparticles (181) in terms of Keyword Plus. The most used author keywords are Heterogeneous Catalysis (46), x-ray diffraction (36) and 1.3 Dipolar cycloaddition (25). Springer, Pergamon-Elsevier Science LTD, Royal Soc Chemistry Elsevier are the leading publishers. The prominent funding Bodies are : the UGC University Grants Commission, India, DST (Department of Science and Technology), India and CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), India.
