Abstract
This descriptive study has interviewed 30 visually impaired (VI) persons in Chennai and Puducherry, selected using Snowball Sampling, and the extent to which they are using Assistive Technology (AT) in their work and purposes for such usage has been analyzed. Results reveal that NVDA is the most used AT by the VI followed by JAWS. VI are using AT to a very large extent in their work and they are using AT for all purposes related to work. The extent to which the VI are using AT in their work is largely influenced by the AT facilitating them to communicate with their superiors, followed by assisting them in administrative tasks, collaborating with colleagues and strengthening their efficacy. Private employees are using AT to a very large extent for all purposes. Bulk of the VI are using AT for longer period of 5 years and more and absolute majority of them are highly benefitted by using AT.
Keywords:Visually Impaired, Assistive Technology, NVDA, JAWS, Benefit.
