Analysing the role of educational management in addressing the Challenges of Teacher Recruitment and Retention in Kasenengwa district.

Issue Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing teacher retention in rural secondary schools in Kasenengwa District. It explores how demographic characteristics, including age, gender, and experience, impact teachers' decisions to remain in rural schools. The findings show that younger teachers and females are underrepresented in these schools, primarily due to concerns about safety and limited career development opportunities. Addressing these challenges is critical for improving retention rates. Additionally, poor infrastructure and a lack of teaching materials were found to negatively affect teacher retention, highlighting the importance of improving working conditions to attract and retain qualified educators. Financial constraints, including inadequate salaries and allowances, were identified as major contributors to teacher turnover, suggesting that prioritizing financial incentives is necessary to retain teachers.
