Conference Volume –I Indian Economic Association (IEA)

D.K. MADAAN

Abstract

The Conference was very well attended, and papers were presented in various technical sessions spread over three days. Prof. Madaan, who was entrusted with selecting and editing the Conference volume, has put in serious effort in finally choosing 128 papers, categorising them into themes, sequencing their order and editing the content before putting the covers. I am sure they will offer a kaleidoscopic panorama on several issues of interest to the economics fraternity in India and abroad.

IEA is the oldest Association in Social Sciences and perhaps the second oldest in the country in any discipline, after the Indian Science Congress Association (founded in 1914). IEA organises annual conferences, special seminars, and lectures by eminent persons of the profession. The initiative taken by Charles Joseph Hamilton, then Minto Professor of Economics at Calcutta University, established IEA in December 1917. IEA stands for promoting the interest of the discipline in terms of extension, expansion and professional competence in teaching, training, research, and consultancy. It promotes the interests of its members but, more than that, the interest of the public. The IEA has so far organised 100 annual conferences in different parts of the country. The 100th Conference was held at J. N. Vyas University, Jodhpur. The present volume is in addition to some papers published in a book, entitled “Contemporary Economic Issues in India”, printed by Bharti Publications, New Delhi, which was released during the Inaugural Session of the Centenary Annual Conference of IEA at J. N. Vyas n University, Jodhpur on 27 December 2017. In compiling the present volume, we acknowledge the cooperation and support of a large number of IEA members.
